The brief was to create the best in class Smart Home app for a major international furniture company. The idea was to provide users with a unique place to interact with the whole home, while enabling synergies between all appliances types.

As the AD for the pitch, I started by fleshing out the key screens of the app to test out a few interaction concepts through Hi-Fi prototyping, while seating closely to the business team to flesh out the offer and the potential team together.

Here is the result. We won the picth

Scandinavian Design Minimalism

Scandinavian Design Minimalism

The client wished the app to be the mirror of their products, simple but efficient, putting the emphasis on visual and global aesthetic, so users could feel as if it was a prolongation of their home as well as a source of inspiration.

As smart home applications can be quite complex, we then focused primarily on capturing the essence of each appliance to extract and propse only the core functionalities. No extra noise.

Contextual Features

Contextual Features

Starting from the assumption a vast majority of "smart tech adopters" remains widely tech savy, smart applications can still be overwhelming. Especially when they start to be cross functional.

The main challenge here, remained to make the whole experience really accessible by simplifying it a maximum without discontenting the most nerdy users.

One of our answer to this came from the fact that applications today needs to be flexible and contextual. We then decided to use a contextual sliding drawer system accross the app which contains all additional features, not to cluter the main experience, yet being able to propose a variety of services.
