Single interaction to Mindfulness

The intent behind such a product was to provide users with the most simple meditation tool they cool find. A product which does NOT create another layer of stress or complexity in our lives. We wanted one single interaction for it all (inspired by Tai-chi principles) so users could only focus on relaxation and not on the appliaction, nor on the device.

By moving slowly and continuously your fingertip across the screen, it triggers what is called the body’s “rest and digest” response, quickly helping you regain focus and release stress within minutes anywhere, anytime.

Keeping engaged yet relaxing

Keeping engaged yet relaxing

The calming audiovisual feedback in the app is designed to help you keep your attention and focus in the present moment. Throughout the development of the application, PAUSE has been continuously tested and validated using EEG-technology to make sure it was creating the response we were expecting.

One of the biggest challenge behind PAUSE, was to help users being completely detached from the screen to reach full relaxation at one point. How do you design visually an experience that shouldn't be seen, yet leaving space for understanding what you are supposed to do? That's how I came up with the idea of the growing blob which will ultimately cover the whole screen, leaving no choice but to focus and rely even more on your gesture and sensations.

Keeping engaged yet relaxing

It may be surprising but this project was actually done in less than a month from design to build and release, thus making the process extremely compressed. The next two weeks were used for user testing & marketing.

It started with a simple idea: stroking your phone slowly and regularly to create focus, which became one of our main design principles.

From this point, I quickly iterated and sketched concepts, which should be more engaging for users than just a black screen. After many iterations, ideas and prototypes, Pause was born.
